TUSK brings you the people and places that make Denver great.
Denise Faddis started TUSK as a way to combine her background in Magazine Design, Art Direction, and Photography. She built a product that utilizes her talents and also feeds her desire to showcase the people and organizations that she felt deserved to be recognized. As well as includes some fun, sexy, and inventive stories along the way.
“I am inspired daily by the people I meet that are working hard to achieve something great. Harnessing their talents to create work that is moving, genuine and unique. They are leading by example and action, and this is turned into an invisible positive power that makes its way to the large energy we are all bound to. TUSK is a way for me to connect those sources to one another.”
TUSK is just starting out, but evolving and growing quickly. The first issue had just over 300 hits and by the third issue it has increased to just over 2000 in one week.
More from Denise:
TUSK was born as a way to fill in a few holes I imagined getting deeper and deeper. Creatively, I wanted an outlet to interweave the different forms of art I love - photography, writing, design, and creative direction. Personally, I needed a way to keep myself not only current, but up on the software I was using less and less as I found myself with more photo assignments than graphic design work. In part because that is where the market took me, and, because after years of repetitive design for a corporation, I found my desire to search that out dwindling.
The third reason stems from my passion to bring light to people, places, and companies I feel are doing amazing things. Contributing in positive ways to our environment and igniting hope or drive in others. In Denver, I noticed certain cliques in fashion and art that I felt limited and diminished so many people that simply don't want to fit in to get recognized. My hope is to showcase some of those artists, like me, that find that limiting.
While working with non-profits I saw a disconnect that needed to be remedied. I noticed that there was not a shortage of volunteers and inspiring founders, but a lack of awareness of the non-profits to people who could benefit from them. Every month TUSK will feature a non-profit rising up and making a difference in our community.
TUSK is not an acronym. I have always had an affinity to elephants, something about their nature and personal connections to one another. I love the word itself, tusk. I feel like it has weight just like the animals your mind goes to when you hear it.
